CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Bhopal unit of Vanmali Srijan Kendra organized a story reading session by renowned storyteller Urmila Shirish at the Vanmali Auditorium of Scope Global Skills University. The event was graced by chief guest and eminent litterateur Shashank and the special guest, Mukesh Verma, the chairman of Vanmali Srijan Peeth. Notably, the Bhopal chapter of Vanmali Srijan Kendra was established this month, with Veena Sinha as its president, who was also present at the event. Director Urmila Shirish is a well-known name in contemporary Hindi literature, making her story reading at the first event of the Bhopal unit a significant occasion.
At the start of the program, Dr. Veena Sinha, president of the Bhopal unit of Vanmali Srijan Kendra, shared insights about the upcoming events planned for the unit, stating that the center aims to conduct quality literary events within Bhopal’s literary community. The focus is not only on literary gatherings but also on hosting high-quality cultural programs in the city. Director Urmila Shirish presented her story “Nani Ki Diary,” which deeply moved the audience with its poignant narrative.
Following the story reading, Mukesh Verma, the special guest, discussed the story. He commented that Dr. Urmila Shirish’s stories highlight the intricate web of relationships, praising her storytelling and recognizing her as an important figure in contemporary Hindi literature. He noted that her work reflects human values reminiscent of Premchand’s writings, capturing the pain of the middle class. Mukesh Verma commended the efforts of Vanmali Srijan Kendra’s Bhopal unit and congratulated its members on this successful event.
Vinay Upadhyay, Director of the Tagore World Art and Culture Center, acknowledged the importance of Urmila Shirish’s presence in Hindi literature, describing her work as a significant voice of her time. Senior litterateur Shashank provided an in-depth analysis of “Nani Ki Diary,” explaining how it sheds light on the emotional status of women in Indian society. He noted the elements of restlessness and irony in her stories and appreciated the lively dialogues that bring her characters to life. Shashank further observed that Urmila Shirish’s stories display realism and neutrality, with the diary format adding a unique beauty to the narrative. He remarked that her work directs readers toward moral sensibilities.
The event was attended by several esteemed and senior literary figures of the city. At the end of the program, Moushumi Parihar expressed gratitude to the guests, members of Vanmali Srijan Kendra, and the officials of Scope Global Skills University.
