CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Varanasi. Ahead of Diwali, police in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, raided a house in a residential colony and recovered around 30 quintals of firecrackers. The recovery of such a large quantity of fireworks has raised security concerns in the area. During the action, the police and Crime Branch team also called the Fire Department team to the spot. Rahul Gupta has been arrested after he failed to produce a valid licence for storing the firecrackers. Police are now gathering information about the source of the seized firecrackers and their possible supply chain.
The raid was conducted on the basis of a tip-off. The case relates to Kunj Vihar residential colony under the Cantt police station area of Varanasi. Police had received information that a large quantity of firecrackers had been stored in a house in the colony. After this, the Cantt police and Crime Branch team reached the spot and carried out a search. During the search, a stock of around 30 quintals of firecrackers was recovered from the house.
According to police, Rahul Gupta, who was present at the spot, was asked to produce a valid licence related to the storage of firecrackers, but he could not provide the required documents. Police then arrested him, seized the firecrackers and registered a case in the matter.
The storage of firecrackers in a residential area has become a matter of concern. Around 30 quintals of firecrackers means nearly 3,000 kilograms of fireworks. Keeping such a large quantity of firecrackers in a house in a residential area raises serious questions about the safety of people living nearby. Because firecrackers contain inflammable material, any fire or explosion could damage nearby houses and harm residents. In view of this risk, the Fire Department team was also present during the raid. During Diwali, when demand for firecrackers increases, monitoring their storage and sale becomes important. Where a licence is required, compliance with rules and safety standards is necessary.
Police are now investigating where the firecrackers were brought from, for what purpose they were stored, and where they were to be sold or supplied. The investigation will also examine whether any other people had a role in the case. For now, police have seized the recovered firecrackers and further legal action is under way. The action ahead of Diwali has once again highlighted the need for safe storage of firecrackers and compliance with rules in residential areas. The charges against the accused and further action in the case will be determined on the basis of the investigation and legal process.
