CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: Vigilance Awareness Week was organised at ICMR-Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC). Former CBI Director Rishi Kumar Shukla was the chief guest at the closing ceremony.

Chief guest Rishi Kumar Shukla said the fight against corruption must begin with one’s own integrity and conduct. He said corruption cannot be eliminated through technology alone. Preventive vigilance, transparent working systems and accountable leadership are necessary for this. Emphasising independent monitoring and regular review in the public procurement process, he said an institution’s credibility is built through better services, honest conduct by employees and impartial resolution of complaints. Ethics must not only be taught, but also adopted in one’s behaviour, he said.

BMHRC Director Dr Manisha Srivastava said that in a medical institution, integrity also means giving patients the right treatment, behaving sensitively towards them, and following medical ethics and prescribed guidelines. Appreciating the efforts of BMHRC’s present and former vigilance officers, she said the very small number of pending vigilance-related cases in the institution is a commendable achievement. She described prompt resolution of complaints and direct communication with patients as important. She said computerisation and web-based software would increase transparency and efficiency in the institution.
