CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay is set to introduce a resolution in the state Assembly opposing the proposed delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies, putting the politically sensitive issue of parliamentary representation at the centre of the ongoing Assembly session. The resolution is aimed at formally registering Tamil Nadu’s concerns over any exercise that could alter the state’s representation in Parliament.
Delimitation involves the redrawing and reallocation of electoral constituencies based on population data. Tamil Nadu and several other southern states have expressed concerns that population-based changes could affect their political representation because of their comparatively successful population-control measures. According to analysis of the proposed delimitation framework, Tamil Nadu could face a reduction in its Lok Sabha seats if the existing total strength of the House is retained.
