CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the chief guestship of Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Deora, the ‘Varsh Pratipada’ New Year celebration under Vikramotsav 2025 was organized on Sunday at Subhash Excellence Higher Secondary School, marking the beginning of Vikram Samvat 2082.
As per the directives of the Department of Culture, Government of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal, the event featured Surya Upasana (sun worship), flag salutation, and a grand theatrical performance on Emperor Vikramaditya to mark the auspicious start of the new year.
On this occasion, Khajuraho MP Shri Vishnudutt Sharma, Mayor Malti Rai, Municipal Corporation President Kishan Suryavanshi, Ravindra Yati, Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh, Municipal Commissioner Harendra Narayan, along with other public representatives and officials were present.
Deputy CM Jagdish Deora, while emphasizing the importance of Vikram Samvat and Indian culture, stated:
“Vikram Samvat is not just India’s glorious calendrical system, but also a symbol of our cultural identity and civilization. It is not an imported tradition, but a calendar established by our ancestors, deeply connected with nature, seasonal cycles, and astronomical events. Through this calendar, we stay rooted in our culture, which makes us unique in the world.”
He further added, “Vikram Samvat is truly our own New Year. It signifies not just a particular date but the beginning of a new chapter in life – a time for self-reflection, renewal, and moving forward in harmony with nature.”
The Deputy CM also emphasized the need to integrate our cultural values with modernity and transform festivals like Vikram Samvat into symbols of national pride.
In his address, Khajuraho MP Shri Vishnudutt Sharma remembered the historical contributions of Emperor Vikramaditya, stating:
“He was not just a powerful ruler but also a visionary, a just king, and a pioneer of cultural renaissance. His era was not only politically golden but also saw unparalleled growth in knowledge, literature, arts, science, and culture.”
