CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. The Delhi government has decided to amend its order granting current duty charge of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Additional DCP) to Delhi Police Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Vivek Bhagat. The decision has been taken amid an inquiry into allegations of misbehaviour with women journalists.

According to the government, an order issued on October 5 had granted current duty charge of Additional DCP to 12 selection grade DANIPS officers, including Vivek Bhagat. The process had begun on August 25 and predated the current controversy. However, after the order was issued, Vivek Bhagat himself requested that the additional responsibility not be assigned to him until the inquiry into the matter is completed.

The Delhi government has accepted his request and decided to amend the order. The remaining 11 officers will now be given current duty charge of Additional DCP, while Vivek Bhagat will continue for now in the post of ACP.

The matter relates to a protest held at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, during which some women journalists alleged harassment and misbehaviour by police officers. The complaints have been sent to the Crime Branch for an impartial inquiry. The further position will become clear only after the investigation is completed.

The government has also clarified that current duty charge is not the same as regular promotion. It does not carry additional salary or other financial benefits linked to regular promotion. The additional charge assigned to Vivek Bhagat has now been withheld until the inquiry is completed.
