CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A major probe has been launched by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi into alleged building bylaw violations linked to the tragic fire in Vivek Vihar that claimed nine lives. Authorities are examining whether structural irregularities, safety lapses, and unauthorized modifications contributed to the rapid spread of the blaze.

Preliminary findings suggest the fire may have been triggered by an electrical fault, possibly an AC explosion or short circuit, before quickly engulfing upper floors. Investigators are focusing on key issues such as blocked escape routes, installation of iron grills, narrow staircases, and the number of dwelling units exceeding permitted limits.

Officials have also flagged that enclosed balconies and grills hindered rescue operations, turning the building into a potential “death trap” during the emergency. Additionally, discrepancies in building plan approvals and the absence of proper compliance documentation are under scrutiny.

The probe will further assess electrical systems, structural compliance, and adherence to fire safety norms, with strict action promised against those found responsible. The tragedy has once again raised serious concerns about enforcement of urban safety regulations in Delhi and the urgent need for stricter monitoring of residential buildings.
