Lucknow. Voting for 11 seats of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council concluded on Friday. Polling was held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in five graduate and six teachers’ constituencies. The fate of 152 candidates contesting these seats will now be decided after counting on October 27. The contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Samajwadi Party remained under special watch.

Election arrangements in 72 districts: According to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, a total of 14,81,310 voters were registered for the election. As many as 2,697 polling stations were set up to conduct the voting process. Polling was held in 72 districts of the state, excluding Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat and Unnao.

The five graduate constituencies include Lucknow, Agra, Meerut, Varanasi and Allahabad-Jhansi. The six teachers’ constituencies are Lucknow, Agra, Meerut, Varanasi, Bareilly-Moradabad and Gorakhpur-Faizabad. According to available reports, 24.09 per cent polling had been recorded across all 11 constituencies by 12 noon. In the initial hours, differences were seen in the pace of voting across different areas. In Meerut, 8.47 per cent polling was recorded for the graduate seat and 11.07 per cent for the teachers’ seat in the first two hours of the morning. However, after polling ended, the state’s final official voting percentage and the final figures for all constituencies could not be independently confirmed from available sources.

Counting will be held on October 27. Voting in these elections was conducted through ballot papers. Election officials had deployed observers, sector magistrates and zonal magistrates to ensure free, fair and peaceful polling. It will now become clear after the counting which party and candidate succeeds on the 11 seats.
