A towering figure in Kerala politics and a founding member of the CPI(M), Achuthanandan was known for his unwavering commitment to leftist ideals, anti-corruption stance, and people-centric governance. He breathed his last after prolonged age-related illness, marking the end of an era in the state’s political history.

Achuthanandan served as the 11th Chief Minister of Kerala from 2006 to 2011 and was a key figure in shaping modern Kerala’s socio-political landscape. His government was known for its strong stands against encroachments, corruption, and its efforts toward pro-poor development and land reforms.

A state mourning has been declared, and his cremation will take place with full State honours on July 23. Leaders from across the political spectrum have paid tributes to his contributions, hailing him as a statesman of integrity and simplicity.
