CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The BCCI has taken a major decision to ensure better coordination between player fitness and the selection process in Indian cricket. Former India batter and Centre of Excellence (CoE) chief VVS Laxman will now attend every senior selection committee meeting. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed the decision.

Laxman was present at the T20I and India-A team selection meeting held in Guwahati on Tuesday. After that, the BCCI decided that he would be part of all senior selection meetings going forward. The board’s objective is to remove any scope for misunderstanding between the selectors and the CoE.

The decision will allow injury and fitness-related information to reach the selectors directly. The latest information available with the CoE regarding a player’s injury, rehabilitation and availability for the team can be shared directly in the meeting. The BCCI has clarified that the step has been taken more to ensure correct and complete information is available than to address transparency in the selection process.

The move is being seen as significant amid repeated injuries to players. With preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup in mind, the Indian team management also wants to build a stable combination with fit players.
