CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Fever is usually caused by infection and, in many cases, subsides within a few days. However, some symptoms appearing along with fever may indicate a serious condition. According to critical care specialist Dr. Ashutosh Tiwari, symptoms such as difficulty breathing, chest pain, extreme weakness or unconsciousness with fever should not be taken lightly, and medical help should be sought immediately.
Rapid breathing, difficulty in breathing, or bluish discoloration of the lips and skin may also be signs of an emergency. Persistent vomiting or diarrhoea accompanied by very low urine output, dry mouth, dizziness, weakness on standing, or excessive lethargy may point to severe dehydration. In such a situation, it is important to contact a doctor immediately instead of continuing treatment at home.
Bleeding from the nose or gums with fever, blood in vomit or stool, sudden red or blue rashes, severe headache, neck stiffness or seizures are also serious warning signs. Special caution is necessary in young children, the elderly and pregnant women. Medical examination is also advised if fever persists continuously for 48 to 72 hours.
