CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Former Pakistan captain and legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram has questioned the current state of Pakistan cricket and targeted the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) system for developing talent. Citing the example of young Indian batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Akram asked why Pakistan had not produced similar talent.
Akram’s comments came at a time when questions are being raised over Pakistan’s performance on the tour of England. Pakistan’s batting has looked weak and the team has faced difficulties in the series. Akram believes the problem is not limited only to the performance of the current players, but that serious work is also needed on the process of preparing young talent in the country’s cricket system.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi has made a name for himself at a young age with his aggressive batting. He has played in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals and has also set several records in youth cricket. Referring to his example, Akram expressed concern over the lack of similar batting talent being developed in Pakistan.
Akram has previously also criticised PCB decisions and the frequent changes in Pakistan cricket. He has stressed the need to give the team and the domestic cricket system a stable plan for four to five years. According to him, instead of making repeated changes, it is necessary to work over the long term on talent development and a strong domestic structure.
