CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Jal Ganga Conservation Campaign has been launched in Bhopal district and across the state with the objective of protecting and enhancing water structures. The campaign will be actively implemented to carry out cleaning, deepening, and renovation of old ponds, stepwells, wells, and other water sources, along with various activities related to water conservation.

Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh stated that under the campaign, ponds will be deepened, rivers and drains cleaned, wells and stepwells rejuvenated, and structures such as recharge pits and rainwater harvesting systems constructed. In addition, citizens are being encouraged to take a pledge for water conservation to raise public awareness. He added that the campaign will be conducted as a public movement in both urban and rural areas.

The campaign is being initiated with water conservation activities around historically, culturally, and religiously significant water sources and temples. Active participation of elected representatives, local communities, citizens, and various government departments has been ensured in these activities.

For effective implementation, multiple departments are participating, including Panchayat & Rural Development, Urban Administration, Revenue, Water Resources, Horticulture, Public Health Engineering, Narmada Valley Development, Forest, Environment, Agriculture, School Education, Women & Child Development, Jan Abhiyan Parishad, and Industry & MSME departments.

The Panchayat & Rural Development Department will undertake projects related to field ponds, Amrit Sarovars, and groundwater conservation. In urban areas, rainwater harvesting systems will be installed and drainage purification arrangements implemented. The Forest Department will carry out groundwater conservation efforts and extensive tree plantation during the monsoon season. The Women & Child Development Department will establish rainwater harvesting systems in Anganwadi centers, developing them as water and nutrition model centers to inspire community participation in water conservation.

Collector Singh appealed to the citizens of the district to actively participate in this important campaign, transform the pledge to save every drop of water into a public movement, and contribute to the cause of water conservation.
