CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: “Periodic Overhauling of Coaches and Wagons by WCR Periodic overhauling of coaches and wagons is conducted at the Bhopal and Kota railway workshops of the West Central Railway. Under the guidance of General Manager Shobhana Bandyopadhyay and the leadership of the Chief Works Manager, the maintenance depot has shown outstanding performance by overhauling the highest number of coaches in July.

From April to July of the current financial year, a total of 2,586 coaches/wagons underwent periodic overhauling at both CRWS/Bhopal and WRS/Kota workshops. Among these, the Passenger Coach Rebuilding Workshop (PCRWS) Bhopal overhauled 512 coaches, while the Kota Wagon Repair Workshop (WRS) maintained 2,344 wagons. In comparison, during the same period last year, both workshops together overhauled a total of 2,651 coaches/wagons, including 417 coaches and 2,234 wagons.

In July alone, PCRWS Bhopal overhauled 133 coaches, while WRS Kota carried out maintenance on 561 wagons. Last July, both workshops together had overhauled 114 coaches and 551 wagons. PCRWS/Bhopal has achieved the highest number of periodic overhauls to date, demonstrating excellent performance. In July, both workshops exceeded their set targets for periodic overhauling, showing improved performance.

It is noteworthy that CRWS Bhopal handles the overhauling of coaches, while WRS Kota focuses on wagon overhauling. During the periodic overhauling (POH) process, the following tasks are performed:

Repair of the body and undergear of coaches and wagons to ensure safety during operations.

Maintenance of all parts under the coach and wagon, which is crucial for safety.

Repair of all parts of the air brake system and buffers on both sides of the wagons and coaches, enhancing safety and providing a jerk-free riding experience.

Maintenance and repair of wheels and axles to improve safety.”
