CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: Weather shifts suddenly in Delhi-NCR, rain brings relief, yellow alert issued
New Delhi. The weather in Delhi-NCR changed suddenly on Thursday morning. Drizzle was reported in several parts of the capital, while heavy rain was seen at some places. The impact of the weather was also visible in Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram. Due to the rain, a drop in temperature was felt and people got relief from the heat. Amid this change in weather, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi-NCR.
According to the weather department, the sky is likely to remain cloudy through the day and light to moderate rain is expected at several places. Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are also forecast in some areas. Because of strong winds, motorists and people working in open areas need to remain alert.
The change in weather may also affect the capital’s air quality. Delhi’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 229 on Wednesday, which falls in the poor category. Rain and strong winds may temporarily reduce the level of pollutant particles present in the atmosphere. However, how much relief from pollution will be felt will depend on the intensity of the rain and wind speed.
The weather department has advised people to avoid standing under trees and staying in open fields during thunderstorms. Slippery roads and reduced visibility may occur during rain, so motorists should exercise caution.
This change in weather in Delhi-NCR may affect both temperature and air quality in the last week of October. Weather conditions will continue to be monitored in the coming days.
