CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Thiruvananthapuram. The three-match ODI series between India and the West Indies is set to begin on September 27. West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has his eyes on ending a 24-year drought of bilateral ODI series wins in India.
The first match will be played in Thiruvananthapuram, followed by matches in Guwahati on September 30 and New Chandigarh on October 3. Sammy has described the series against India as a major opportunity for his team to test itself.
He said performing well against India in home conditions would help the team assess its current strength. He added that the series is also an important part of preparations for next year’s ODI World Cup qualifiers.
The West Indies have not qualified directly for the 2027 ODI World Cup and are now focused on the qualifier matches. Sammy said a strong performance against India would give players a chance to prepare for competing on the big stage.
The team will also have expectations from players such as Shai Hope, Amir Jangoo, Sherfane Rutherford and Alzarri Joseph. Sammy also praised the performance of 19-year-old leg-spinner Vitel Lodge. Lodge has taken eight wickets in five matches since making his ODI debut against New Zealand.
According to Sammy, the team is working continuously on his development, and the series against India will also give young players an opportunity to show their ability.
