CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: When will Vaibhav Suryavanshi get his chance? Nayar suggests the route

Amid the excitement of the five-match T20 series between India and the West Indies, the demand to include young batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the playing XI has grown stronger. Vaibhav has not got a chance to play in the first three matches of the series. India defeated the West Indies by 14 runs in the third T20 in Indore to take a 2-1 lead in the series. The fourth match is now scheduled to be played on October 14 in Hyderabad. In the meantime, former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar has offered a strategic suggestion on giving Vaibhav an opportunity.

Nayar believes Team India should first focus on winning the series. According to him, if India win the fourth T20 and take an unassailable 3-1 lead, they can consider giving Vaibhav Suryavanshi a chance in the final match. Speaking on Star Sports, Nayar said he wanted India to first secure a 3-1 lead and then give Vaibhav an opportunity to play in the last match. The suggestion is based on the strategy of protecting the team combination and the series result.

India have so far trusted Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson as openers. After the role played by both in the third match, changing the opening pair will not be an easy decision for the team management. However, whether Vaibhav gets an opportunity will depend on the team management’s strategy and match conditions.

Nayar also praised Abhishek Sharma for his excellent batting in the third T20 and explained how he changed his plan against Roston Chase. West Indies off-spinner Roston Chase had dismissed Abhishek in the first two matches of the series. In the third match, Abhishek altered his approach and played an explosive innings of 69 runs off 30 balls. His knock included six fours and five sixes.

According to Nayar, Abhishek’s strength is that he can show patience at the start when needed and then become aggressive after understanding a bowler’s plan. He said that after playing the first few balls carefully, Abhishek understood Chase’s bowling and fielding plan. He then changed his shot selection and put pressure on the bowler.

Nayar explained that when a bowler has repeatedly dismissed a batter, the batter has to change his strategy against him. Abhishek Sharma first took time to understand Chase and then played his shots according to the deliveries. In this way, he scored runs not only through power but also by reading the situation.

Abhishek’s innings helped India post a big total. India scored 223 and later defeated the West Indies by 14 runs to take the lead in the series.

Attention will now turn to the fourth T20 between India and the West Indies, to be played on October 14 in Hyderabad. The Indian team will look to win the match and seal the series. At the same time, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s fans will be watching to see when he gets a place in the final XI. Nayar’s suggestion is that securing the series first and then giving the young player an opportunity in the final match could be a practical option for the team.
