CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News / Agencies, Bhopal: During pregnancy, women’s bodies undergo many physical and hormonal changes. Even after childbirth, the body takes time to return to its normal state. In such a situation, many women continue to weigh more after delivery than they did earlier. According to doctors, this may be due not only to the weight gained during pregnancy, but also to several other factors.
During pregnancy, as the baby develops, the uterus, placenta, amniotic fluid and the amount of blood in the body increase. After delivery, it takes time for these changes to normalize. In addition, hormonal fluctuations, lack of sleep and care of the newborn affect the daily routine. Many women do not get enough time for regular exercise and physical activity. Eating habits may also change because of stress and fatigue. During breastfeeding, the body needs extra energy, but this does not mean that every woman will automatically lose weight. Changes in weight also depend on diet, activity, sleep, genetic factors and pre-pregnancy weight.
Doctors advise that women should not rush to lose weight after delivery. They should eat a balanced diet, drink enough water and gradually start walking and exercising as per medical advice. Excessive dieting or skipping meals should be avoided, especially by women who are breastfeeding. If weight is increasing rapidly or there are symptoms such as excessive fatigue, a doctor should be consulted.
