CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Debate Over the Three-Language Formula in NEP 2020 Intensifies
The three-language formula proposed under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has sparked a nationwide debate. While some states perceive it as an attempt to impose Hindi, others see it as a significant step toward linguistic integration in India.
Recently, Telugu superstar and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan took a positive stance on the importance of Hindi. Now, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has also expressed his support for Hindi, further fueling the debate.
Naidu’s Perspective on Hindi as a Unifying Language
Naidu believes that Hindi is not just a language but a medium that connects the entire nation. According to him:
✅ Hindi can facilitate communication between people from different states.
✅ It plays a crucial role in trade, education, and employment opportunities.
✅ Instead of being politicized, language should be seen as a tool for knowledge and dialogue.
The Importance of Linguistic Inclusivity
India’s multilingual culture is one of its greatest strengths, with all regional languages, including Hindi, contributing equally.
✔ No language should be imposed or suppressed, as that is neither practical nor just.
✔ However, the widespread use of Hindi and its relevance in employment cannot be ignored.
✔ Learning a new language does not weaken one’s mother tongue but enhances intellectual and professional capabilities.
Rather than treating this as a “language vs. politics” conflict, it should be seen as an effort toward linguistic inclusivity. Hindi and regional languages should not be viewed as competitors but as complementary to each other.
The views of leaders like Pawan Kalyan and Chandrababu Naidu reflect this balance, emphasizing that learning Hindi should not be seen as an imposition but as a valuable step toward personal and national growth.
