CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The state government’s Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Rakesh Shukla, said that under Dr. Mohan’s government, Madhya Pradesh is now going to transform small farmers into “electricity producers” through solar energy. Compared to other states in the country, this is an innovative experiment by the state government for farmers, which will give Madhya Pradesh a new identity in the field of renewable energy.

Addressing a press conference, Minister Rakesh Shukla said, “Through the ‘Surya Mitra Agriculture Feeder Scheme,’ small farmers of the state will now become electricity producers. Assistance will also be taken from investors, but the core intention of our government is that farmers produce cheap electricity through renewable energy, use it themselves, and also sell it.”

Minister Rakesh Shukla informed that under this scheme, the government has decided to install solar projects utilizing 100% capacity of electric substations. This scheme will provide investment and employment opportunities to local entrepreneurs under the “Vocal for Local” initiative. A power purchase agreement will be signed with the government for 25 years.

Minister Shukla also mentioned that farmers will get electricity during the daytime for irrigation and that their lifestyle can be improved. This is the objective of the scheme.
