A video of a woman police officer celebrating her birthday in Karad in Maharashtra’s Satara district has sparked controversy. Woman police officer Sonal Patil celebrated her birthday with her new car on the Kolhapur Naka-Nandalapur flyover. Significantly, four youths had died in a horrific road accident on the same flyover around 10 to 15 days earlier. After the video of the birthday celebration went viral on social media, questions are being raised about the police officer’s conduct.
In the viral video, Sonal Patil is seen cutting a cake on the bonnet of her car and posing for photographs with it. During the celebration, a bouquet of flowers and golden sparks from a pyro gun are also visible. The entire event was recorded on video and shared on social media as a reel.
A painful road accident had taken place recently at the location where the event was held. On October 21, an SUV travelling from Kolhapur towards Satara collided with a truck and a tempo. Four youths died on the spot in the accident, while three others were injured.
After the video surfaced, citizens questioned the holding of such a private celebration on a public flyover and the disregard for traffic safety. At present, no official information has emerged from the police department about any action in the matter.
