CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the leadership of Madhya Pradesh Women’s Congress President Vibha Patel, a sit-in protest was held near the State Congress Headquarters. A large number of Women’s Congress leaders and Congress members participated in the demonstration.

Mrs. Patel stated that the state has once again been shamed by the incident of gang rape involving the female friends of two army officers in Mau, Indore district. The gang rape of young women in Indore is a horrific and inhumane crime. There is no longer any semblance of law and order in the state. Criminals no longer fear the law. People with criminal tendencies have become so bold that they do not hesitate to prey on women in broad daylight.

Mrs. Patel added that the situation of law and order has deteriorated to such an extent that even soldiers, who protect the nation, are no longer safe. Incidents like the one in Indore have proven that the administration has completely failed to provide security to women. The Madhya Pradesh Congress strongly condemns the Indore incident and other similar crimes. The fear of the police has completely vanished. Such an incident involving army officers is extremely shameful.

After the protest, Women’s Congress President Mrs. Patel submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor to the SDM, demanding strict action against the culprits involved in the rape of the female friends of army officers in Indore.

Mrs. Patel warned the government, stating that if such crimes are not immediately curbed, the Women’s Congress will be compelled to take to the streets across the state to protest against the deteriorating law and order situation.

Present at the protest were former Minister P.C. Sharma, Bhopal District City Congress President Praveen Saxena, and Women’s Congress office bearers Rajlaxmi Nayak, Sheetal Malviya, Mehak Rana, Rashida Mustafa, Rajni Dubey, Lata Devre, Ratna Pandey, Pratibha Tomar, Saroj Guzre, Kusum Pal, Parvati Maurya, Jyoti Padam, among many other Women’s Congress officials and workers.
