CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2026, the Regional Science Centre, Bhopal, is organizing a series of special science programs under the theme “Benefits of Giving.” The aim of these programs is to increase interest among female students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and to promote a scientific outlook.
On the first day of the program series, a special session on “Our Primary Star – The Sun” was organized for the students. The session began with an interactive discussion, providing participants with engaging and scientific insights into the importance of the Sun and its role in sustaining life on Earth. The structure of the Sun, its internal dynamics, and the process of energy production were explained in a simple and accessible manner.

During the session, students were introduced to concepts such as the solar system, processes occurring at the Sun’s core, sunspots, the solar cycle, and coronal mass ejections. Additionally, information was shared about India’s solar research efforts, particularly the Aditya-L1 mission, the scientific data obtained from it, and the proposed next-generation large solar telescope.
Following the discussion, a hands-on workshop was conducted for the students, in which they used science kits to create models related to the Sun-Earth system, the solar cycle, and observations of the Sun across different wavelengths.
The program also included a virtual reality tour of the solar system, allowing students to better understand the structure of the planets and their relationship with the Sun.
As part of the ongoing program series, upcoming activities will include the Human Torso Science Show, STEM workshops, biotechnology-based activities, liquid nitrogen demonstrations, safe observation of sunspots, and guided tours of the Dinosaur Park. These activities aim to familiarize students with the exciting and practical aspects of science.
