CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. The participation of women students in the country’s leading technical and management institutions is steadily increasing. According to data from the research department of the State Bank of India, nearly 93 percent of students on average secured placements in institutions such as IITs, IIMs and NITs. Along with this, the number of women in these institutions has also risen significantly in recent years.

According to the research, women accounted for 26.3 percent in the data available for 14 IIMs in 2017-18, which increased to 37.7 percent in 2023-24. During the same period, the share of women in IITs rose from 8.1 percent to 20 percent, while in NITs it increased from 18.4 percent to 21.8 percent.

The number of IITs, IIMs and NITs has also increased from 59 in 2014 to 76 institutions in 2026. With the rise in student numbers, employment opportunities have also grown. Between 2015-16 and 2023-24, the number of students securing placements increased from 7,552 to 13,693 in IIMs, from 9,474 to 17,467 in IITs, and from 18,492 to 28,468 in NITs.

The report also recorded an increase in salaries. Between 2015-16 and 2023-24, the average median salary rose from Rs 28.5 lakh to Rs 43.6 lakh in IIMs, from Rs 17.6 lakh to Rs 36.1 lakh in IITs, and from Rs 10.5 lakh to Rs 20.7 lakh in NITs. However, not all students move directly into employment, as many also pursue higher education and research.
