CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: AIIMS Bhopal and CanKids Organize Workshop for Children Who Have Conquered Cancer The Department of Pediatrics at AIIMS, in collaboration with the National Society for Change for Childhood Cancer in India and CanKids…KidsCan, organized a workshop aimed at empowering childhood cancer survivors. The objective was to provide essential education and support to children who have overcome cancer and their caregivers.
Professor (Dr.) Ajay Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS, emphasized the crucial need for empowering young cancer survivors. Dr. Singh stated, “By empowering these children, we can empower a generation, which will strengthen society. He stressed the need for systematic identification, monitoring, and management of post-cancer treatment side effects to improve the long-term health and quality of life for survivors.
Dr. Singh further noted, “Merely being cancer-free after long and complex treatments is not enough. Patients and caregivers need to remain vigilant for any side effects in a timely manner before these post-treatment issues become life-threatening. Regular follow-up care with doctors is as important after treatment as it is during treatment.” The workshop educated and inspired cancer survivors and their families about the importance of regular follow-ups. CanKids’ Survivor Forum not only educates but also provides a support network to help children and their families move forward. Through promoting understanding of the benefits of regular medical check-ups and encouraging a healthy lifestyle, the forum aims to ensure that cancer survivors can lead better lives.
During the program, Dr. Yogendra Yadav, Dr. Narendrah Chaudhary, Dr. Ambar Kumar, Dr. Rajkumar, and Dr. Vaishnavi Agarwal shared their insights on various issues, while Mr. Vikas Yadav provided information about CanKids. Approximately 30 families participated in the workshop.
