CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the leadership of Executive Director Ajay Singh, AIIMS Bhopal is organizing World Antibiotic Awareness Week (WAAW) to educate people about the proper use of antibiotics and the dangers of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
As part of the “Go Blue” campaign, AIIMS Bhopal’s hospital and administrative buildings will be illuminated in blue to raise awareness about antibiotic resistance. This campaign, initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO), aims to promote global understanding of AMR.
On this occasion, Director Singh stated that antimicrobial resistance is a critical global health issue that can only be mitigated through collective efforts. AIIMS Bhopal is actively working to raise awareness, train healthcare workers, and encourage the judicious use of antibiotics. Throughout the week, AIIMS Bhopal is organizing numerous programs for both healthcare professionals and the general public.
Special educational sessions are being conducted for students, researchers, nurses, and paramedical staff to enhance their understanding of antibiotic resistance and its solutions. Additionally, street plays, skits, and short video messages are being showcased in various areas of the hospital to educate patients, their families, and the public.
Notably, AIIMS Bhopal is the only institution in Central India that regularly updates antibiograms on its website. These antibiograms assist smaller hospitals and nursing homes in selecting the right antibiotics. AIIMS Bhopal has also played a key role in developing the ‘MP State Action Plan’ and the ‘One State-One Health Policy.’
This initiative highlights AIIMS Bhopal’s commitment to public awareness, strengthening healthcare systems, and effectively addressing the challenges of antimicrobial resistance.
