CNN Central News and Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A district-level programme was organised at the Institute for Excellence in Higher Education, Bhopal, on the occasion of World Environment Day under the National Service Scheme cell of Barkatullah University, Bhopal. The programme included tree plantation under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, a district-level slogan and poster-making competition, and a seminar on environmental awareness.

Bharat Vyas, Officer on Special Duty in the office of the Hon'ble Higher Education Minister and a senior educationist and thinker, was the chief guest. The programme was chaired by Pragyesh Kumar Agrawal, Director, Institute for Excellence in Higher Education, Bhopal. Manoj Agnihotri, State Coordinator, National Service Scheme, Madhya Pradesh, Anant Kumar Saxena, Programme Coordinator, National Service Scheme, Barkatullah University, Bhopal, and Rahul Singh Parihar, Programme Officer, Open Unit, Barkatullah University, Bhopal, and ETI trainer, were present as special guests. Ayushi Sinha, who has been honoured with a National Service Scheme award, was also specially present.

The programme began with tree plantation by the guests under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. Saplings of Munga (drumstick), neem and peepal were planted on the occasion. This was followed by garlanding the portrait of Goddess Saraswati and lighting the ceremonial lamp to formally inaugurate the event.

Through a presentation, Ayushi Sinha informed volunteers about various aspects of environmental conservation. She inspired the youth to adopt innovations such as use less, reuse and recycle, ball-making, the use of clay toys, and rainwater harvesting, and urged them to make these a part of daily life.

In his address, chief guest Bharat Vyas said that environmental protection begins with oneself. He stressed the need to reduce the use of plastic, stop unnecessary electricity consumption, avoid food wastage and conserve natural resources. He said that only when every individual takes a pledge for personal change can positive change be brought about in society and the environment. On the occasion, he also administered an oath for environmental protection to all the students and volunteers present.

During the programme, Rahul Singh Parihar encouraged students and volunteers to undertake plantation under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. He called on the youth to plant as many saplings as possible in their homes, neighbourhoods and surrounding areas and to care for them regularly. He also encouraged students to play an active role in environmental protection activities in their respective areas and spread public awareness.

A large number of National Service Scheme volunteers, students and teachers participated in the programme and took a pledge to protect the environment. The objective of the programme was to develop environmental awareness among the youth and promote public participation for the protection of nature.

The programme was successfully organised under the guidance of Pragyesh Kumar Agrawal, Director of the Institute for Excellence in Higher Education, Bhopal, and the leadership of National Service Scheme Programme Officer Indira Barman.
