CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A one-day workshop was organized at Rabindranath Tagore University on the occasion of World Food Day. The workshop was conducted under the joint aegis of the Horticulture Department, Agricultural Research Institute, and Faculty of Agriculture at the university, focusing on the theme “Food Security: Challenges and Solutions.” The event featured notable speakers including Pooja Singh, Deputy Director, Department of Agriculture, Government of Madhya Pradesh; Eng. D.L. Raikwar, former DGM, BEML (Ministry of Defense, Government of India); Sanjeev Gupta, Dean Academic; Dr. H.D. Verma, Dean of Agriculture Faculty; and Ashok Kumar Verma, Assistant Dean.
Pooja Singh delivered a key lecture on “Madhya Pradesh: The Food Basket of India,” emphasizing the importance of the processing industry in preserving agricultural products and maintaining their quality. Following her, Eng. D.L. Raikwar presented a special lecture on “Mushroom Production and Value Addition,” discussing the progress and potential in this field, highlighting it as a viable industry that can be started with low capital and limited resources.
In his welcome speech, Dr. H.D. Verma stressed that World Food Day is not just important for the agriculture and food sector but for society as a whole. He pointed out the need to preserve the billions worth of food and horticultural products that are lost each year. Sanjeev Gupta shared insights on the current agricultural landscape in Madhya Pradesh and the successes of the Faculty of Agriculture.
A quiz competition related to agriculture and the food processing industry was also held for students, and prizes were awarded to the top participants. The workshop introduced attendees to the latest technologies in food processing and Hi-Tech Custom Hiring Centers.
Ashok Kumar Verma, Assistant Dean, introduced the purpose of the workshop at the opening ceremony. The event was coordinated by Shubham Kumar Kulshreshtha, Head of the Horticulture Department, and Assistant Professor Balveer Singh. Manohar Saryam, Assistant Professor, conducted the event, and Shubham Kumar Kulshreshtha expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, speakers, faculty members, and students for their contributions to the success of the event. Many experts, professors, and students from the agricultural sector attended the workshop.
