The Yoga Department of Rabindranath Tagore University organized a yoga workshop on the occasion of World Philosophy Day, with this year’s main theme focusing on the role of philosophy in preventing environmental crises. The program aimed to raise students’ awareness of the relevance of philosophical principles and the importance of environmental conservation.
The event began with a ceremonial lamp lighting, followed by a welcome address by Head of Department Ratnesh Pandey. In his speech, he emphasized that philosophy is not merely a theoretical study but a guiding framework for life. It inspires individuals toward morality, responsibility, and balance, while fostering sensitivity toward both the natural and social environment. He encouraged students to incorporate philosophical principles into their daily lives to cultivate positive behavior and thought.

Special guest Chandrashekhar Tiwari from Akhand Ayurveda Institute, Bhopal, highlighted that in the Indian philosophical and Ayurvedic tradition, nature is revered as a mother, and its protection is the responsibility of every individual. Meanwhile, Professor Laljit Pachori from Vashishtha Yoga Institute explained the profound elements of philosophy through examples from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, illustrating the practical importance of truth, dharma, and ethical values in daily life.
The keynote speaker, Narendra Singh from Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, delivered an impactful lecture on the role of philosophy in addressing environmental crises. He explained that contemporary human materialism, industrialization, and unlimited consumption have exacerbated environmental imbalances. Philosophy teaches restraint, balance, and adherence to ethical values, which are essential for environmental protection.
The workshop was conducted by Akhilesh Vishwakarma. Professors, researchers, yoga students, and students from other departments participated in large numbers, engaging in discussions and knowledge-sharing. Overall, the workshop was highly educational, interactive, and inspirational.
