This year’s theme for World Physiotherapy Day is “The Role of Physiotherapy and Physical Activity in Healthy Ageing – Prevention of Frailty and Falls.”

Addressing the gathering, speakers emphasized that for a physiotherapist, in-depth knowledge of their subject is essential to treat patients effectively. It was highlighted with pride that BMHRC’s physiotherapy department is among the best centers in Bhopal and Madhya Pradesh. Soon, a Bachelor of Physiotherapy course will also begin at the institute, with 40 seats already approved by the Madhya Pradesh Council of Allied Medical Sciences.

In his keynote address, Dr. Vijay Kumar explained that physical activity and regular physiotherapy in old age not only improve quality of life but also prevent serious health complications arising from falls. Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at BMHRC, Dr. Saurabh Dixit, added that while surgeons perform surgeries, it is physiotherapists who help patients recover afterward.

On this occasion, BMHRC physiotherapist Dr. Nehal Shah shared that in 2019, the number of people over 60 years was 1 billion, which will rise to 2.1 billion by 2050. To prevent frailty and falls, regular exercise, balance-improving activities, and social engagement are crucial. Physiotherapists can design suitable exercise plans for all age groups, helping people live safe, independent, and active lives.

Physiotherapists Dr. Seema Rani and Dr. Manish Dwivedi also shared their experiences and delivered the vote of thanks.
