He reached Joint Base Andrews near Washington on September 23, where US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcomed him. This is Xi’s first state visit to the United States since 2015.
Xi Jinping will remain in the United States until September 25. During the visit, he will hold bilateral talks with President Trump. The two leaders are expected to discuss issues related to trade, tariffs, rare minerals, artificial intelligence and the technology sector. According to China’s Foreign Ministry, the talks will also cover China-US relations as well as issues linked to global peace and development. According to the US administration, a formal welcome ceremony in honour of Xi Jinping will be held at the White House on September 24. The two leaders will meet after that. In the evening, President Trump and Melania Trump will host a state banquet.
The visit is being seen as important for relations between the two countries. Apart from differences linked to trade and technology, Taiwan, Iran and global strategic issues may also be discussed by the two leaders. In 2026, this will be the second face-to-face meeting between Trump and Xi. Xi Jinping’s US visit comes at a time when trade and technological competition continues between the world’s two major economies. Both countries are emphasising dialogue and the management of differences.
