CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Yakshagana is a folk dance of the state of Karnataka. It is a traditional dance-drama form of Karnataka that is a unique performance with a commendable classical background. Yakshagana is performed with traditional music, often at temples and village squares, blending artistic elements from Sanskrit dramas with themes derived from great epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata.

The performance, organized by SPIC-MACAY, featured the traditional folk dance-drama Yakshagana by lead artist Guru K. Shivananda Hegde and his team at the Bhavabhuti Auditorium on the Bhopal campus. This dramatic presentation combines classical music, refined dance skills, and ancient texts, creating a grand fusion regarded as one of the most captivating dance forms in India.

Prof. Ramakant Pandey, Director of the Central Sanskrit University, Bhopal campus, welcomed and honored the artists, emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting such traditional folk dances to sustain India’s knowledge and folk traditions. Prof. Pandey himself is an expert in Natya Shastra. The event saw the attendance of faculty, staff, and students from the campus, all enjoying the Yakshagana performance. The event was organized and conducted by Prof. Prasad Ramesh Bhide from the Center for Natya Shastra Studies and Research, with support from other faculty members of the research center
