CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Delhi: New Delhi. Delhi residents may soon get an opportunity to take a cruise ride on the Yamuna river. The Delhi government is preparing to launch the ‘Namo Yamuna Cruise Safari’ in the first week of November 2026. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday inspected the trial run of the cruise on the proposed waterway from Sonia Vihar to Jagatpur. According to officials, the trial may continue for about a week. The final date for starting the service has not yet been announced.

Under the proposed plan, the cruise will operate on an approximately six-kilometre stretch of the Yamuna river. Its route will run from Sonia Vihar to the Shani temple at Jagatpur. The full journey is expected to take about 35 to 45 minutes. Around 30 passengers will be able to travel on the cruise at one time.

As per the proposed fee structure, visitors will have to pay ₹50 for entry to the premises and ₹500 per person for the full cruise ride. Tickets are planned to be made available online through the Delhi Tourism website. However, an official announcement is awaited on the start of ticket booking and final confirmation of the charges.

The government plans to develop the area around the cruise safari as a recreation and picnic destination for families. Proposed facilities include a restaurant, food park, special children’s zone, musical fountain and water sports. The government expects the initiative to boost tourism in Delhi and create new local employment opportunities.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed officials to pay special attention to passenger safety, cleanliness and facilities. The proposed cruise will include features such as safety jackets, a public announcement system and bio-toilets designed to prevent waste from entering the river.

Several agencies are cooperating in the project, including the Inland Waterways Authority of India, Delhi Development Authority, Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation, Irrigation and Flood Control Department and Delhi Jal Board. The government is trying to start the service before Chhath Mahaparv. Once regular operations begin, Delhi residents and tourists will have a new option for a cruise ride in the middle of the river in the capital.
