CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Sanaa. At least seven people were killed and 40 others injured in an air strike on a market area near Mawiyah Junction in Yemen’s Taiz province on Sunday. Children were among the injured.
Several shops and vehicles in the market were damaged after the attack, while some nearby buildings also sustained damage. The Health Ministry of the Houthi administration claimed the attack targeted market shops, leaving a large number of civilians affected. Local reports blamed Saudi-led air strikes for the attack. However, these claims have not been independently verified.
The internationally recognised Yemeni government, meanwhile, made a different claim. According to the government, its forces had targeted a Houthi military camp and vehicles located near Mawiyah Junction. Military sources linked to the government said Houthi fighters had recently set up a base near the market.
The incident comes as fighting has intensified between the Houthi group and Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces in Taiz and other parts of Yemen. In recent days, reports have emerged of a large number of people being killed and displaced in the conflict. According to the United Nations, the latest fighting is further deepening the humanitarian crisis.
