The fleet includes both four-wheelers and two-wheelers and is intended to strengthen traffic management, road safety and police response capabilities.
The vehicles are being deployed in districts reporting higher numbers of road accidents. According to Uttar Pradesh DGP Rajeev Krishna, the state’s Zero Fatality District initiative is operational across all 75 districts, with police focusing on enforcement, engineering, education, electronic enforcement and emergency response.

The Chief Minister also honoured the wife of late UP Police STF Inspector Sunil Kumar, who was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra. The state government had announced the gallantry award for Kumar in 2026.
A total of 16 police personnel received the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry, while 10 personnel were honoured with the Chief Minister’s Gallantry Medal during the ceremony. The programme recognised police personnel for bravery and service.
The event combined police modernisation, road-safety measures and recognition of personnel who have received gallantry awards. The Uttar Pradesh government said the new interceptor vehicles would strengthen enforcement and monitoring capabilities on roads.
