Lucknow. On the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended greetings to the people of the state and gave a message of social harmony, equality and fraternity. He appealed to young people to adopt the ideals of Lord Shri Ram in their lives and resolve not to discriminate against anyone on the basis of caste, class or social identity. The Chief Minister said real harmony in society would be established only when the walls of high and low are removed from people’s minds.

Ramayana gives a message of equality and fraternity. Describing Maharishi Valmiki as a great guide of Indian culture and humanity, the Chief Minister said that through the Ramayana he passed on values such as truth, dharma, dignity and devotion to duty from generation to generation. According to him, the character of Lord Shri Ram inspires an ideal society based on love, justice, equality and social harmony.

Yogi Adityanath referred to the friendship between Lord Shri Ram and Nishadraj Guha and said the episode teaches people to rise above social identity and embrace a spirit of affection and respect. He urged young people to give place to these values in their conduct and not accept any form of discrimination in society.

Emphasis on preserving Maharishi Valmiki’s legacy. The Chief Minister said efforts are being made for the preservation and development of places associated with Maharishi Valmiki. Mention was also made of the development of his taposthali in Chitrakoot and initiatives to preserve the Valmiki Ashram in Bithoor and improve tourism facilities there. The naming of Ayodhya’s Maharishi Valmiki International Airport is also among the efforts to honour his legacy.

Equal opportunities for deprived sections. The Chief Minister described the socio-economic upliftment of deprived and backward communities as necessary for building a harmonious society. He mentioned schemes related to the honour, safety and welfare of sanitation workers and efforts to take government facilities to the Vantangiya, Musahar, Kol and other communities. He said even the person standing at the last rung of society should get respect, security and equal opportunity. The essence of Maharishi Valmiki’s teachings will be meaningful only when social harmony and human dignity become part of life. The Chief Minister’s message remained centred on respect for cultural heritage along with the need for social equality and a discrimination-free society.
