CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Regional Science Centre, Bhopal, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhopal, is organising a special interactive session for students under the ‘Youth Science Dialogue’ series. The aim of the initiative is to introduce students from Classes 8 to 12, as well as students of colleges and universities, to educational and professional opportunities available in various fields of science, and to inspire them to choose careers according to their interests and abilities. The dialogue session will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 28, 2026, at the Regional Science Centre, Bhopal.
A key objective of the ‘Youth Science Dialogue’ series is to encourage young people to move forward in the fields of science, research and innovation, thereby strengthening the resolve of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. With this vision, the series has been conceptualised jointly by the Regional Science Centre, Bhopal, and IISER, Bhopal. Its purpose is to develop scientific thinking, curiosity, creativity and a spirit of research among the younger generation, and to encourage them to contribute to the country’s scientific and technological progress. In this first dialogue session, Raghuvir Singh Tomar, Director in-charge of IISER, Bhopal, and from the Department of Biological Sciences, will interact with students as the keynote speaker. The topic of the session is “The relationship between food and the epigenome: understanding how diet influences gene regulation”, in which the links between food, nutrition and the functioning of genes will be discussed.
The session will explain that food is not only a source of energy, but that various nutrients present in it can also influence gene expression and functioning in the body. Through the role of folate, vitamin B12, choline and various bioactive components found in fruits, vegetables, grains and spices, students will be able to understand the concept of nutritional epigenetics. The subject is connected with important aspects such as cellular metabolism, development, ageing and susceptibility to various diseases. A special feature of the ‘Youth Science Dialogue’ series is the opportunity for direct interaction and question-and-answer sessions with experts. During this, students will be able to get answers to their subject-related queries and gain information about emerging areas of science, research and the educational and career opportunities available in them. In this way, the initiative will not be limited to introducing students only to scientific concepts, but will also inspire them to become future scientists, researchers and innovators.
This joint initiative of the Regional Science Centre, Bhopal, and IISER, Bhopal, is an important step towards developing a scientific outlook among students, increasing their interest in research and helping them make informed and appropriate career decisions for the future. The shared goal of both institutions is to encourage the scientific potential of young people, develop a sense of self-reliance in them and ensure their participation in nation-building through science and technology. Students, schools, colleges and universities have been urged to participate in this interactive session.
