CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Research scholar Yusra Maryam, whose research focuses on the foliar treatment of air pollutants by phyllosphere microorganisms from greenbelt plants, is currently pursuing her study under the guidance of Dr. Ragini Gothalwal, Head of the Department and Coordinator of the Bioinformatics Center, and Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences at Barkatullah University, Bhopal.

At the 41st Madhya Pradesh Young Scientist Congress 2026, Yusra Maryam was awarded the Young Scientist honor and First Prize in the Environmental Science category for her commendable work and presentation of her research paper. She received this recognition as an outstanding candidate for her study on epiphytic microbiome: nickel phytoremediation.

Phytoremediation is a natural and biotechnological process for reducing air pollution, in which pollutants in the air are cleaned using plant leaves and the microorganisms living on them.

The Young Scientist Congress 2026 was organized by the Madhya Pradesh Council of Science & Technology (MPCST) at the Science Bhawan, Nehru Nagar, Bhopal. The Vice-Chancellor of Barkatullah University, Bhopal, Suresh Kumar Jain, congratulated the student on this remarkable achievement.
