After a phone conversation, the two leaders agreed to hold a meeting during the United Nations General Assembly. Zelenskyy said the meeting could be important in the direction of resolving the Russia-Ukraine war.
Zelenskyy said on social media that his conversation with Trump was important and that several issues were discussed. He said diplomatic activity between the two countries is continuing and the meeting “could change a lot.” However, he has not announced any agreement or ceasefire from the meeting.
According to the Ukrainian president, the conversation covered possible steps to reduce tensions and issues related to security. Energy security, food security and the protection of people’s lives were among the key subjects. Zelenskyy said Ukraine is ready to work with the American team to take serious steps.
The meeting is taking place at a time when the United States is trying to advance peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. The war between the two countries continues, and despite diplomatic efforts, several issues related to a settlement remain pending.
