CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Asthma patients should take these precautions during changing weather conditions, include these foods in the diet
In changing weather, sudden shifts in temperature and humidity, cold air, pollen, air pollution and infections such as cold and cough can increase problems such as breathlessness, coughing and chest tightness in asthma patients. In such a situation, along with medicines, it is also important to pay attention to the surrounding environment and diet.
Green vegetables, seasonal fruits, whole grains and nutrient-rich foods can be included in the diet. Fruits and vegetables containing nutrients such as vitamins C and E, and sources of vitamin D such as eggs, milk and fish, can be part of a balanced diet. However, no single food item should be considered a treatment for asthma.
If a person is allergic to a particular food, it is important to avoid it. In some people, sulphite-containing foods, such as some dried fruits and processed foods, can aggravate symptoms. There is no need to stop large categories of food without medical advice.
During changing weather, avoid pollution, smoke and strong cold winds, and check air quality before stepping out. Continue taking medicines and inhalers regularly as prescribed by the doctor. Seek immediate medical assistance if breathing difficulty suddenly increases, speaking becomes difficult or symptoms worsen rapidly.
