CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The weather in Delhi changed suddenly in the last days of September. On Sunday, the capital’s Safdarjung station recorded a minimum temperature of 21 degrees Celsius, the second-lowest September temperature since 2001. Earlier, 20.8 degrees Celsius was recorded on September 6, 2008.
Because of rain and north-westerly and north-easterly winds, Delhi has been feeling cooler in the morning and at night. The maximum temperature at Safdarjung was also four degrees below normal at 30.6 degrees Celsius. The Ridge area recorded a minimum temperature of 16.8 degrees Celsius. However, it would be premature to see this fall in temperature as a sign of the onset of winter. According to the Meteorological Department, minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to rise gradually over the next few days. On September 28, the minimum temperature is expected to be around 22 degrees and the maximum 32 degrees, while the weather is likely to remain mainly clear from September 29.
The southwest monsoon has also withdrawn from Delhi on September 23, two days before the normal date of September 25. For now, therefore, the coolness in the weather is being seen as a temporary change caused by rain and winds, not the early beginning of a lasting winter.
