CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Visakhapatnam: The Indian and Singapore navies have begun the 33rd edition of SIMBEX, with professional exchanges and harbour activities continuing this week. Singapore Navy ship RSS Supreme arrived on October 21 for the exercise, which runs until October 26, according to the Ministry of Defence.

The opening ceremony took place aboard INS Nilgiri and INS Kamorta. Senior officers from both navies attended. The harbour phase, scheduled for October 21-23, includes specialist exchanges, cross-deck visits, sporting engagements and planning conferences.

A separate sea phase is scheduled for October 24-26 in the Bay of Bengal. The announced programme includes anti-submarine, anti-surface and anti-air warfare drills, alongside seamanship and tactical manoeuvres.

SIMBEX began in 1994 as Exercise Lion King. The ministry said the continuing bilateral engagement is intended to improve operational interoperability and professional understanding between the two navies, while supporting cooperation on shared maritime security challenges.
