CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Persistent fatigue in children is often linked to weakness, study pressure or lack of sleep. However, if a child remains unusually tired or weak for a long period and the problem is not improving, it should not be ignored.
In childhood blood cancer, especially acute lymphoblastic leukemia, fatigue and weakness can be among the major symptoms. According to expert sources, leukemia may present with persistent fatigue along with pale skin, unexplained bruising or bleeding, repeated fever or infections, pain in bones and joints, breathing difficulty, loss of appetite and unexplained weight loss. Painless lumps or swelling in the neck, armpit or other parts of the body may also be seen.
However, these symptoms do not mean that the child definitely has blood cancer. The same symptoms can also occur in many common illnesses. But if the symptoms persist, worsen or several signs appear together, it is important to show the child to a doctor. Depending on the need, the doctor may advise blood tests and other investigations.
Timely testing can help identify the cause of the illness and, if required, begin treatment. Therefore, signs such as long-standing fatigue, paleness, repeated infections or abnormal bleeding in children should not be dismissed as ordinary weakness.
