CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News / Agencies, Bhopal:
Air pollution in Delhi-NCR continues to turn severe. On Friday morning, November 6, the Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed 400 in several areas of the capital. According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data at 6 a.m., Delhi’s average AQI was recorded at 389, in the very poor category. In nine key areas, air quality reached the severe level.
Rohini recorded the highest AQI at 473. Punjabi Bagh recorded 464, RK Puram 441, Alipur and Sonia Vihar 435 each, Okhla Phase-2 426, North Campus 424, ITO 420 and Najafgarh 412. In addition, Pusa recorded 393, Chandni Chowk 386 and Anand Vihar 350.
Along with Delhi, the air in Noida and Gurugram also remained in the very poor category. In the morning, a dense layer of haze and smog covered several areas, affecting visibility and causing breathing difficulties for people.
According to experts, slow wind speed, changes in weather, vehicle emissions and pollution from stubble burning are worsening the situation. There is little possibility of immediate relief from pollution in the coming days.
Health experts have advised children, the elderly and people suffering from respiratory or heart-related illnesses to take special precautions. People have been urged to avoid stepping out unnecessarily and to wear a good-quality N95 mask when going outdoors.
