CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Five foods that may help lower high uric acid levels
Rising uric acid levels are becoming a common problem. Uric acid is formed when a substance called purine breaks down in the body, and the kidneys usually remove it through urine. When its level increases, some people may face problems such as gout and joint pain. Certain dietary changes can help control uric acid.
1. Water: Drinking enough water may help the kidneys remove uric acid from the body.
2. Low-fat dairy: Low-fat milk and curd can be included as part of a balanced diet.
3. Vitamin C-rich fruits: Oranges, sweet lime and other fruits can be added to the diet.
4. Whole grains and vegetables: Fibre-rich foods are better options for a balanced diet.
5. Cherries: Some studies have found a link between cherry consumption and a lower risk of gout, although this cannot be considered a treatment.
Reducing alcohol, especially beer, sugary drinks and excessive consumption of red meat or organ meat may also be useful. In cases of very high uric acid or repeated gout attacks, do not depend only on diet and consult a doctor.
