CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A Garbh Sanskar programme was organised at Health Centre No. 4 of Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC), Bhopal.
Addressing women from Anganwadi centres who attended the programme, BMHRC Director-in-Charge Dr Manisha Srivastava said yoga and meditation are necessary during pregnancy. She said it is important to eat balanced, home-cooked food during pregnancy. In particular, along with nutritious food, special yoga postures for pregnancy help make the body flexible and reduce mental stress.
As special speakers at the programme, Dr Nehal Shah expressed her views on “Regular exercise during pregnancy”, while Dr Roma Rastogi spoke on “The importance of exercise during pregnancy for normal delivery”.
Health Centre Coordinator Dr Roma Rastogi said in the lecture series that exercise benefits pregnant women and helps make normal delivery easier. She said 20 to 30 minutes of light exercise or yoga every day during pregnancy is very safe and beneficial for the health of both the mother and the baby. Regular exercise, she said, helps improve health.
Dr Nehal Shah, giving detailed information through a PowerPoint presentation, explained what kinds of exercises can make pregnancy easier. She spoke about pelvic floor exercises and different exercises for different trimesters, including Kegel exercises, exercises related to core stability, exercises to reduce swelling in the legs, and how posture should be maintained during pregnancy.
Nutrition and diet kits were distributed to pregnant women who came from Anganwadi centres. The kits included peanuts, mixed pulses, jaggery, daliya and rajgira laddus as sources of protein and carbohydrates.
Dr Rachita Chansouria, doctors and staff members were present at the programme.
