CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: PM Modi highlights amla benefits and its role in healthy diets

New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 138th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, referred to amla, describing it as a tasty and health-promoting fruit. He said Indian families have long used amla in items such as pickles, murabba, juice and chyawanprash. Along with the traditional use of amla, the Prime Minister also mentioned the benefits its cultivation is bringing to the rural economy in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh.

Amla is considered a good source of vitamin C, fibre and various antioxidants. Vitamin C plays an important role in the normal functioning of the body’s immune system. The fibre present in it may be useful for the digestive system, and including it in a regular diet can improve the nutritional quality of food.

The antioxidants found in amla may help protect the body from oxidative stress. In addition, when it is part of a balanced diet, it provides nutrients that can also be useful for skin and hair health. However, one should not depend only on amla for the treatment of any disease.

Apart from eating amla raw, it can be consumed as chutney, juice, pickle or with other food items. According to experts, it is better to consume any food item in balanced quantities. People with diabetes or other health issues should be mindful of the added sugar present in sweet amla products such as murabba and candy.
