CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. After being diagnosed with diabetes, many people skip dinner to control blood sugar. However, according to Dr Rajesh Khadgawat, Professor in the Department of Endocrinology at AIIMS Delhi, there is no direct link between skipping dinner and controlling diabetes. This can be considered a common myth.

According to the doctor, in diabetes it is important to pay attention to food intake throughout the day. Meals should have a balance of carbohydrates, protein and fibre. Vegetables and whole grains can be made part of the diet. At the same time, people should avoid suddenly eating too much and keeping very long gaps between meals.

Patients taking insulin or medicines that can lower blood sugar should especially avoid skipping meals without medical advice. Skipping or delaying food may increase the risk of blood sugar falling too low in some patients. Therefore, it is not appropriate to skip meals on the basis of information from social media.

For diabetes management, along with a balanced diet, it is also important to keep weight under control and undertake regular physical activity. Dr Khadgawat stressed regular exercise and avoiding excessive sweets. It is necessary to consult one’s doctor before changing medicines or meal timings.
